Beelzebub, also known as Bee, is a demon that appears in the manga Shadows of Spawn.
It is later revealed that she's the younger sister of Malebolgia,[1] but due to the manga ceasing production their relationship is never expounded on any further.
History[]
Beelzebub makes her first appearance in Episode 2: The Intrigue, being put in charge of watching over Ken Kurosawa after the Violator, who was originally in charge of the newly reborn hellspawn, leaves to go to New York. After telling Ken that his younger sister, Mariko, doesn't have any need for him anymore and laughing at the hellspawn's current situation, Ken clutches the demon in anger before calming down and releasing her. Beelzebub expresses surprise at this as, according to her, most people try to crush her which then causes her to hurt them to teach them a lesson.
Ken, in despair over his situation, thinks that the reason for his revival was for revenge and runs off into the night to find the ones responsible for his death; Beelzebub follows after him, commenting that Malebolgia wouldn't have brought him back for such reasons. Ken beats up two thugs, both of whom don't remember what happened seven years ago, commenting that their gang has changed its leaders multiple times and that the one that killed him is already dead. Depressed over the revelation that he was too late for revenge, Ken tells Beelzebub to go away. As Violator promised her payment for looking after Ken, she bites into his neck and sucks out some of his psychoplasm, though Ken is unaffected by this. Afterwards, the demon's antennae start tingling, signifying that something is about to happen to Mariko, and helps Ken to teleport to his younger sister's location.
While initially disappointed with Ken's performance against his battle against Harold Carter, as teleporting had greatly weakened him, she is surprised when Ken turns things around and begins to absorbing Carter's psychoplasm. Beelzebub continues to stick by Ken's side even when Violator returns from New York, having become smaller after a battle with Al Simmons.Violator tells Ken about "Malebolgia's curse"—danger will constantly come to Mariko, which causes Ken to constantly use up his powers; every time he dies, he is revived but every time he resurrects, Ken will slowly fall under Malebolgia's complete control. Ken flies off in rage over his deal with Malebolgia, with Beelzebub and Violator watching on. Beelzebub asks if Violator should really be staying behind as both Violator and Ken may be in danger of being attacked by angels, and with Violator's current predicament of being small, the phlebiac would stand no chance against one. Worried, Violator flies off after him.
Ken's presence alerts the US government, causing them to test out their latest creation: Tremor II. Beelzebub makes it to Ken's location as he battles the man-made behemoth, and gives the hellspawn some advice. Ken notices Tremor II attempting to attack the demon, so he jumps out in front of her to receive the blow, surprising her. Although initially angry that he tried to save her despite her being much more powerful than the both of them, she's evidently grateful for his kind gesture and, when Tremor II tries to crush her in his palm, she uses her power to destroy him arm. After the battle, a demon named Nebulos questions Beelzebub for meddling in the affairs of one of Malebolgia's minions. Beelzebub tries to defend herself but Nebulos tells her that she should just "save [her] excuses for [her] big brother. He's got a much bigger heart for such things."[1]
In Episode 7: Aspiration, Ken leaves after the Violator tells him about Cheveyo, who could help him become even stronger so that he could protect Mariko. After the hellspawn leaves, Beelzebub appears behind the phlebiac, surprising him as he thought she had left long ago. She asks Violator whether it was a good idea for him not to warn Ken about how dangerous Cheveyo could be and that, if Ken just rushes in, he could be dead on arrival. Violator tells her that what happens, happens.
Beelzebub makes her next appearance in Episode 13: The End of the Century after Violator comments that he would've helped Ken during his battle with Ellis Bennet if he thought the hellspawn was actually in trouble. After Ken makes a comment about pride, Beelzebub notes Cheveyo's influence on the young hellspawn before warning him that Cheveyo doesn't have that much time left.
